First Confession/First Communion

Sacramental Prep

Faith Formation is responsible for the sacramental programs of Reconciliation (Confession) and Eucharist (Communion) for the parishes of St. Michael’s and St. Mary’s.  The sacramental year for these two sacraments is second grade.  Faith Formation and St. Croix Catholic School, along with students in home school programs that wish to participate, form these sacramental programs.  Classes and preparation for students in older grades is also available.  Please call 651-351-3175, ext. 211 and speak to Karen Sisson for sacramental preparation of students grades 3-6, or if you are the parent of a second grader that is in a home school program.

Note: Students making their sacraments (with the exception of SCCS students) enroll in one of the regular Faith Formation sessions "Register". If you are already enrolled, do not enroll again. Through your registration, your child is included in our sacramental preparation database.  St. Croix Catholic School is automatically added to the sacramental program database from a list we receive from the school and do not register through this site.

Sacramental Calendar

First Reconciliation (Confession):

When the perfect union with God and the Church has been ruptured by an act of sin, a Catholic Christian is to be reconciled with God and the community through the sacrament of reconciliation. The early Church referred to this sacrament as a mini-baptism because it returns a person to full union with the Church.

First Eucharist (Communion):

Celebration of the Eucharist is at the heart of the life of the Church. The Christian community gathers to celebrate the mystery of God’s love as it is revealed in the sacred Scriptures and in the sacrificial meal. Those who gather are fed by the Word and by the Body and Blood of Christ.

Preparing our Hearts and Minds… The 2016-2017 First Communion Retreat Recap

To prepare their hearts and minds to receive the Holy Eucharist, our second grade children spent time focusing on this great gift at our First Eucharist retreat. They and their parents attended this retreat where they contemplated the Last Supper Scripture Account, Synthesis of the Holy Mass, The History of the Gifts, The Centurion Servant Scripture Account and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

First Communicants play a special role in our year-end celebration Mary Crowning!
