Congratulations on the birth of your child! The Catholic Church and our faith community share in your joy as you bring forth your child to the Sacrament of Baptism. At the Church of St. Michael, we honor your roles as parents/guardians and seek to support you in the faith development and experience of the child and family. Therefore (if you live in the Stillwater area), we ask you to register in our parish community and join in the sacramental and community life here.
In addition to registration, a Baptism preparation class is required for all new parents/guardians. This class will prepare you on the theology of the sacrament, go over the Rite of Baptism that you will celebrate and set a path toward fulfilling the vow of raising your child in the faith. (If you have attended this class within the past 3 years, you do not need to repeat the class). The preparation class is about 45 to 60 minutes in length.
Baptisms are normally held on the 1st and 2nd Sundays of each month, following the 11:00 Mass. *** However, during the renovation project in St. Michael’s Church, baptisms will only be offered at St. Mary’s on the 1st and 3rd Sunday each month, until the renovations are completed in April 2020. Please note that sacramental information is retained at the church where you were baptized. So if you are a St. Michael’s family, and you choose to have your child baptized at St. Mary’s during this renovation time, your child’s baptismal record, as well as future sacraments, will be recorded at St. Mary’s.***
To register your child for baptism, please complete the Baptism Request Form below and mail or email it to Debbie Krautbauer. Also, you will need to submit a copy of the child’s birth certificate to the Parish Office. The number of baptisms each Sunday is limited and the office assistant will let you know which dates are available.
Choosing Godparents: Parents must choose a least one godparent; there may be two, one of each gender. Godparents must be a practicing Catholic, at least 16 years of age and confirmed in the Catholic Church and if married, their marriage needs to have been recognized as sacramental in the Catholic Church. Godparents should complete the godparent covenant form and return it to the parish office. A person baptized in another Christian faith may stand as a Christian witness.
If you have any questions contact the parish office at 651-439-4400.
