Council of Catholic Women
Women of Faith, Following the Lead
We know that you take care of your spouses, family members and friends and are busy. Please join us and take time for yourself to grow spiritually by joining the Council of Catholic Women (CCW). This year we will focus on following the lead of Pope Francis. Our meetings, speakers and events will focus on helping the poor and opening our arms and hearts to others in need.
The National Council of Catholic Women was founded in 1920 and was formed after a meeting of Catholic women was convened by the U.S. bishops who had witnessed the important work done by Catholic women’s organizations during World War I. The CCW at St. Michael’s began in the 1950s and presently has over 200 members. It is divided into separate rosary bands (or small groups), which meet at their convenience. The bands are largely divided by demographics, and include women of all ages and at all stages in life. Each month a general meeting of all of the bands is held.
Goals and Activities
The ladies of the CCW participate in parish life at St. Michael’s by hosting funeral luncheons and other church receptions, undertaking church cleaning and helping as needed. In addition, the ladies of CCW put on Merry Mall each year in November. This year Merry Mall will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2013. The funds raised at Merry Mall are donated to St. Michael’s and various charities throughout the St. Croix Valley.
In addition to their service to St. Michael’s, the ladies of CCW grow in their faith each year through listening to speakers and participating in other charitable works at the general meetings held monthly and at meetings of the various rosary bands, i.e., smaller groups, which make up the CCW.
New Members are always welcome to join St Michael’s Council of Catholic Women (CCW). New groups are forming now, contact Coleen Siegfried to find out more information.
